The story of Sanjay Dutt’s life is likely to go on the screen and if all goes well, director Rajkumar Hirani and actor Ranbir Kapoor would come together for the first time to tell the highs and lows in the 54-year-old star’s life. The decision was reportedly taken around a week before Sanjay returned to Pune’s Yerawada Jail after his parole period ran out. If rumours are to be believed the film-maker will soon produce a biopic on Bollywood’s infamous superstar. A credible source in the industry has revealed that Hirani will co-produce the project with the actor’s wife Manyata, News Agency reported.

“Sanjay and Raju had a discussion a long time ago. Sanjay had told him to guide him on films that his production houses are invloved in,” the source said.

“Manyata bhabhi (Sanjay’s wife) was keen on a film being made on her husband’s life for Sanjay Dutt Productions. But the couple wanted only Rajkumar Hirani to direct the film as Sanju sir has created magic with Raju (Hirani) in Munna Bhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munna Bhai,” said a source, reported Bollywood Life.

The material and the facts regarding Sanjay’s life were too vast and controversial, but both Maanyata and Sanjay were adamant.

Hirani who will be directing the biopic has already begun his research work for the film.

“Raju isn’t fond of donning the producer’s hat. He’s doing it for his next with Aamir (Khan) and has agreed to do it for Sanjay’s biopic only because they both go back a long time. The film will go into pre-prodution after Raju’s December release. As of now, Ranbir (Kapoor) has liked the script, but no cast has been finalised yet. Sanjay’s life story is vast and requires a lot of minute detailing,” revealed a source.

Dutt has always been in the media’s limelight for multiple reasons and Ranbir, who is his biggest fan, will apparently soon be stepping into his shoes to share his tale on the big screen.
